Jump Like a Toad

A few days ago, the girl across the street came over and gave Matt a baby toad. Needless to say, he was thrilled!! I was not so thrilled. It's very tiny and even a bit cute right now, but I know (because I'm the Mom) that it will not stay that way. It will grow up and become a big ugly toad.

Background info:

Matt and Barry came home from doing errands one day with a fish, and reassured me that they would do all "fish maintenance" together - so Matt could learn responsibility and he could have a chore to do with Daddy. Yup, I ended up feeding it, changing the water, doing the whole fish thing. I was pretty darn sure the toad would go the same way!

At dinner this evening I explained to Matt that his toad is actually a wild animal, and it wants to live outside. He bought into it pretty well and it was decided that Matt and his Daddy would go outside aftet dinner and find "Fireball" a new home.

As dinner progressed, Matt was dawdling something awful, so I divided up his plate into things that he must eat and those that he could leave behind. Our conversation went like this:

Matt: "Do I have to eat this?"

Me: "Yes"

Matt: "But not this?"

Me: "Nope"

Matt: "Do I have to eat this?"

Me: "Matt! You know what you have to eat!"

Matt: "Mommy, you're going to jump like a toad aren't you?"

Needless to say our dinner ended up in fits of laughter!!

God Bless,

Laura

P.S.
Much to his dismay, Barry did go outside and find Fireball a nice new home near the creek.
