Dixie

Hi all,

For those of you that haven't had a chance to meet her, this is Dixie. She was off to a rough start when we first got her way back in May (cried at 3:00am, had no clue about the whole pee outside idea) but has turned herself into a really nice little dog. She has a wonderful personality and just loves to be held, cuddled and played with. She's quiet and sweet and LOVES to sleep on her back!

Matt is quite taken with her, although he frequently asks when she will be big like Cola (our faithful shepherd/husky who passed away last fall). We had to sit down and have a talk about big dogs and little dogs, and I'm not sure I'm the best teacher in the world, because he now thinks that all big dogs are shepherds and all little dogs are shih tzus. Poor guy, he might be in for a long haul.

Hope all is well.

Jump Like a Toad

A few days ago, the girl across the street came over and gave Matt a baby toad. Needless to say, he was thrilled!! I was not so thrilled. It's very tiny and even a bit cute right now, but I know (because I'm the Mom) that it will not stay that way. It will grow up and become a big ugly toad.

Background info:

Matt and Barry came home from doing errands one day with a fish, and reassured me that they would do all "fish maintenance" together - so Matt could learn responsibility and he could have a chore to do with Daddy. Yup, I ended up feeding it, changing the water, doing the whole fish thing. I was pretty darn sure the toad would go the same way!

At dinner this evening I explained to Matt that his toad is actually a wild animal, and it wants to live outside. He bought into it pretty well and it was decided that Matt and his Daddy would go outside aftet dinner and find "Fireball" a new home.

As dinner progressed, Matt was dawdling something awful, so I divided up his plate into things that he must eat and those that he could leave behind. Our conversation went like this:

Matt: "Do I have to eat this?"

Me: "Yes"

Matt: "But not this?"

Me: "Nope"

Matt: "Do I have to eat this?"

Me: "Matt! You know what you have to eat!"

Matt: "Mommy, you're going to jump like a toad aren't you?"

Needless to say our dinner ended up in fits of laughter!!

God Bless,

Laura

P.S.
Much to his dismay, Barry did go outside and find Fireball a nice new home near the creek.

Middle Name Means Business

Okay, so when I've really had enough of Matt being a little sass pot, or something is just needing a bit of punctuation so that he knows I mean business, like many other Moms, I tack on the middle name. In Matt's case, it ens up being "Matthew Blair!"

Matt has been interested in stop lights lately. Near our home we have a stop light that is normally flashing green. For some reason, the light was flashing yellow all day today. On our way home from Matt's swimming lessons, I looked around the intersection, and proceeded to drive through. Matt promptly spoke up from the backseat, "Mommy Blair!! That light was not green. You need to go back and stop right now!"

I was laughing so hard by the time I got home I was crying.

Thought I'd share that with you.

Love,

Not sure how many of you have viewed my complete profile, but I'm looking for some feedback here people. The template I chose had a spot for me to ask a question for those who viewed my blog to answer. So, the question is, "If you could choose between great wisdom, great perseverence or great character, which would you choose?" And, of course, if you're going to answer, you might as well tell me why you chose what you did.

Blessings,

Laura

Small Fish

So, Matt went fishing yesterday with his Dad, and another father/son pair. AND...GUESS WHAT?! He caught his first fish! In keeping with our family tradition, Barry forgot the camera at home, so we have no evidence of this momentous occasion, except for the fact that Matt treats us to the "re-living" of the tale several times a day. The fish was just a little one, so Matt was actually able to reel it in all by himself, and his little voice swells with pride each time he tells us (or, even more exciting for him - someone who hasn't heard the story before) that he caught "THE SMALLEST FISH!!"
(The picture I posted is one of a previous fishing trip, his first experience holding a fish - still a big deal, but that isn't "his" fish)

Wouldn't it be amazing if we could all take such notice of the smallest things, and be just as excited over them as we are over the biggest things?

Love to all,

Laura

Confidence!

So, Matt is in swimming lessons these days, and he LOVES it. He came dripping out of the pool the other day and grinned at me saying, "Mommy, I'm a great swimmer!" I glanced over at his swimming instructor to see her reaction and she was just smiling, saying how cute he is. So, while he may not be ready for the Olympics just yet, he is only four, he loves the water, and I'm amazed to see that after only a few days of taking lessons, he can put his face in, blow bubbles and kick all at the same time, so, in essence, he can swim!!

Go Matt!

Here we go

Well, I certainly didn't think I'd ever be a blogger, or that my first blog would be about this. Two and half years ago when we bought this enormous house that we live in we were sooo certain that we were done! We were going to live here until the movers came and packed us up to move out of the community. Boy, was I wrong.

Six months ago we were told that a family MIGHT be moving to Mackenzie and MIGHT have a need for a big house like ours. We didn't think much of it. Events unfolded and things happened that we didn't see comin'...and now, I'm getting ready to sell half of our furniture and move into a townhouse the size of one of our three levels!! Funny thing? I can hardly wait!

I have to confess, I'm a little scared of what God might possbily think up next!

Blessings to all,

Laura
